The Locker

The Locker is built below the Edge Artist Village and Gallery at 611 Main Street in Winnipeg. We are an artist collective with 11 members who work in mediums from paint to glass, from clay to notes. We occupy a completely rebuilt building that was formerly known as “Norman’s Meats”.

The recording studio is built within the walls of what used to be a meat locker. The studio is divided into an editing/comfy couch area and a soundproof booth with fiberglass baffles lining the walls. I am currently recording with a Pro Tools system capable of 32 tracks and a sound card capable of recording 10 tracks simultaneously. I have Reason 3.0 and Various RTAS Plug-ins for Pro Tools. My star microphone is a Rode NT2-A, and I also have an Apex condenser as well as two Apex pencil microphones. For monitors I have a pair of Wharfedale 8.2 Diamond Pros. I use a Mackie HUI as a mixer inside the DAW, and an Edirol PCR M30 as a midi controller. For analogue gear, I have a Techniques turntable, an Akai 1/4 inch reel-to-reel, an Akai cassette tape player/recorder, a Sony Tape recorder and a Harmon Kardon amp. All analogue gear can be routed to digital to be cut and edited in Pro Tools.
